Your support helps protect endangered species, restore ecosystems, and empower communities working to create a future where wildlife and people thrive together.
Species are under pressure. Habitats are shrinking. And for hundreds of Canada’s most at-risk animals and plants, protecting land alone isn’t enough – they need direct, hands-on intervention to survive. Your donation makes that intervention possible.
The Wilder Institute is a registered Canadian charity. Thanks to a funding relationship with the Calgary Zoological Society – which more than offsets our administrative costs – 100% of your gift goes directly to conservation impact.

Every donation makes a difference. You choose where yours goes – whether you want to support a specific species, a type of conservation work, or have us direct your funds to where it will make the most impact.
Conservation needs shift constantly as new threats emerge, critical windows open, and opportunities arise. By supporting the greatest need, your donation goes where it will have the most impact, guided by our team’s expertise.
Conservation works best when it helps both people and wildlife. Inclusive conservation is an approach that listens to those who live on and steward the landscape. It ensures that local communities are meaningfully involved for longer lasting conservation impacts.
From burrowing owls in Alberta to whooping cranes in the Northwest Territories, hands-on species recovery programs give at-risk wildlife the direct intervention they need. Your donation funds the conservation breeding, research, and field work that keeps these programs running year after year.
Canada’s most ambitious coordinated response to species loss needs broad public support to succeed. Your donation helps fund targeted conservation translocations for many at-risk species, contributing to a 10-year national effort to make Canada a wilder place.
Every conservation decision we make is grounded in science. Your support funds the population ecologists, field researchers, and conservation specialists whose work advances best practices for species recovery in Canada and around the world.
Wilder Institute is planning to raise an estimated amount of $5,268,340 this year through fundraising campaigns. It will cost our organization an estimate of $830,455 to raise this. The money raised will be going to support wildlife conservation projects.
For further information, please contact Steven Ross at (403) 232-9367. Our address is 1300 Zoo Road NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 7V6 and we are incorporated in Alberta. Tax receipts will be issued by CanadaHelps under Wilder Institute.
The Wilder Institute has hatched 56 whooping crane chicks under our care, released 171 burrowing owls back to Alberta’s prairies, and helped establish 23 Nature Conservation Clubs in schools near Kenya’s Ragati-Chehe forests. These are the outcomes your support makes possible – and they’re just the beginning.
Behind every donation is a species fighting to survive and a community working to protect it. Here are some of the programs your support makes possible, each one part of the story of building One Wild Future.
There is more than one way to support the Wilder Institute’s conservation efforts. Whether you give monthly or plan a gift for after you’re gone, every contribution helps build a future where wildlife and people thrive together.
A single donation of any amount goes directly to conservation impact. Choose a specific area of support or let our team direct your gift to where it’s needed most. Tax receipts issued through Canada Helps.

Conservation happens over years of sustained effort – monthly giving is what makes that possible. Regular donations allow us to plan ahead, invest in long-term programs, and respond quickly when a species needs us most. The impact of even a small monthly gift compounds over time.
$5/month could pay for four remote SD cards to support Vancouver Island marmot research
$20/month could supply researchers with portable scales to monitor animal health in the wild
$35/month could cover high-tech binoculars, allowing researchers to observe animals from a safe distance
$80/month could fund a remote camera to monitor wildlife in hard-to-reach habitats
