Wilder Impact Fund

A new grant program supporting conservation translocation projects for Canadian species at risk.

What the Wilder Impact Fund is

In spring 2026, the Wilder Institute launched the Wilder Impact Fund – a multi-year grant program designed to fund conservation translocation projects for Canadian species at risk. The first of its kind in Canada, the fund’s goal is to close a gap; conservation translocations are one of the few tools for bringing species back from the brink, and there’s a growing need for them. However, the capacity and resources required for organizations to implement conservation translocation programs aren’t keeping pace. The Wilder Impact Fund is our way of changing that. At its heart, the fund is designed to amplify and enable community-led wildlife conservation initiatives across Canada.

Our Approach

The Wilder Impact Fund is a platform for collaboration. By supporting existing and emerging conservation practitioners across Canada, we’re building a broader, more connected network and working to ensure people and wildlife can thrive together. We aim to equip grantees with the knowledge and resources needed to run effective, lasting conservation programs.

Pilot 2026

Program launch

During this initial pilot year, applications have been limited to a select number of invited organizations. We have assembled a diverse external Expert Advisory Committee to review applications and make recommendations for funding. Final grantee selections will be announced in fall 2026.

What comes next

After the pilot year, we’ll evaluate the program with applicant feedback and consider how to scale it in future years.

Stay connected

The 2026 cycle is by invitation only, but future cycles may be open more broadly to eligible groups and organizations across Canada. If you’d like to be notified about program updates in 2027, or have questions, contact WilderImpactFund@WilderInstitute.org.
